Collaborative Laboratories

The Collaborative Laboratories (CoLABs) are a state initiative under the Interface Programme, aimed at accelerating technology transfer processes and strengthen the links between science, economic activity and society at large. CoLABs’ main goal is to create skilled and scientific jobs in Portugal, both directly and indirectly, by implementing research and innovation agendas geared at creating economic and social value.

CoLABs are typically non-profit private associations and can be made up by companies, non-corporate R&I organizations, Higher Education Institutions (through their R&D Units), Technological Interface Centers and other intermediate institutions, business associations, other public administration organizations, and other partners within the productive, social or cultural fabric.

NOVA and its constitutive entities currently integrate 11 CoLABS, coordinating three of them (InnovPlantProtect, VoH.COLAB and TRIALS). In addition, AlmaScience is headquartered at Madan Parque/Campus of Caparica in order to allow a future expansion in the emerging areas of flexible electronics and biomedical applications.

These CoLABs are actively working to find practical, innovative and sustainable solutions in areas as diverse as agriculture, cybersecurity, food, health, sustainability, environment, clinical trials, circular economy and biorefineries.
