WISE (World-Changing Innovations for Sustainable Energies)

WHEN: MARCH-JUNE 2024

The WISE (World-Changing Innovations for Sustainable Energies) program, scheduled to run from March to June 2024, is an innovation sprint designed to immerse five teams of NOVA students into real-world challenges. These teams will work together with mentors from NOVA ecosystem and executives from GALP, to devise disruptive solutions that could significantly impact the energy landscape.

This initiative promoted by GALP and NOVA aims to accelerate visionary innovation and address complex challenges in the transition to sustainable energies, specifically focusing on second-life batteries.

WISE is open to all students, whether Portuguese or international, across all NOVA Academic Units.

Program Content

 

*Meeting with mentor and with liasons in dates to be defined. All sessions are mandatory.

Estimated time you must allocate to the program: 6 hours a week, between classes, mentoring sessions, and homework.

Team composition: You will be part of a team made up of students from NOVA’s various academic units. Throughout the programme, you will collaborate with GALP executives and NOVA professors.

Location in-person sessions:  GALP (Allo | Alcântara Offices)

After the launch of the missions, on the face-to-face days, the students will be able to use GALP’s co-working space to work if they wish.

Methodology

WISE is taught exclusively in English.

Participating students will be organized into 5 teams and engage in a three-month period of intensive exploration and innovation. Through life-centred innovation methodologies, collaboration and passion-based learning, students experiment and test new concepts and new business cases The goal is to develop disruptive solutions and tangible outcomes through the creation of a proof-of-concept with a no-fi/low-fi prototype, and a proposed business model.

At the end of the program, the teams will pitch their project in the final DEMO DAY to a panel of Jury that will select the best project.

DEMO DAY

The DEMO DAY is scheduled to occur on June 4, 2024, at GALP’s premises. An external jury will be present to evaluate the progress of each project and choose the winning team. At the end, there will be a moment of celebration and networking with all the participants.

The winning team will receive tickets to the European Innovation Academy with all expenses covered, an opportunity for job shadowing at GALP and a Linkedin Badge (a NOVA certificate for Linkedin).
