Children without adequate access to pediatric care are more likely to fail to identify important situations that could be prevented or resolved early on, but which become dangerous and
complex if they are not treated immediately.
Parents also end up resorting to the Hospital Emergency Department, even when they don’t need to, congesting waiting rooms (25% of visits to the Emergency Department in Lisbon are pediatric).
