A single zero curvature polyhedric surface for roofing structure and weather protection.

TECHNOLOGY OVERVIEW

Roofs have two problems: the supporting structure and the weather protection. Geodesic structures are strong and light but require customized weather protection.

This technology provides a unified solution: both the supporting structure and the weather protection are a single zero curvature polyhedric surface (Fig. 1). The structure is made of flat parts, nuts and bolts only. The weather protection is a single flat sheet of a flexible material without creases, without seams and without holes.

STAGE OF DEVELOPMENT

TRL 2/3 – The next steps for this technology will involve the development of a prototype. Targeted software also has to be developed.

BENEFITS

Fixing the weather protection to the structure is incredibly simple: ropes fastened to the ground.
